Being a (former) Film Studies student, and general lover of film, I find it very hard to choose just one film as my favourite, as I love so many! Yet, if I have to give a definitive answer, then I always happily and proudly say, The Sound of Music; it has romance, drama, history, humour, and on top of that is a musical! So I was very glad to find out that Cineworld were showing it the big screen for all to see and appreciate. Having obviously not been alive when it was originally on the big screen, I was absolutely thrilled to learn that I could actually get the chance to.

Julie Andrews is just an amazing actress and singer, and this film shows her to full marvellous extent. Plus she looked divine on the silver screen - the cinematography is just fabulous in this film, whether it is showing the beautiful mountains and Salzberg, or the emotional or musical moments, seeing it at the cinema made me appreciate it even more!

Christopher Plummer plays his part incredibly well - both the humour and the more serious Austrian passion, but I was saddened to recently find out that his singing parts are actually dubbed (by Bill Lee). And the film wouldn't be what it is without the children, and other great actors too.

There were moments I almost burst into song, so it was a shame it wasn't a sing-along; although, that did mean I saved the other specators' poor ears.

I have loved this film since I was a very young child when my role model, the late (Grandad) John 'Boy' W. Round used put it on every time my sister, and my cousins and I went over; we would all sing along, so has created many fond childhood memories. Unfortunately, in the cinema I did shed a few tears as it did make me think of my Grandad, and how I wish he could have sat there next to me and watched it too.

It wasn't just that, that made me tear up, the more historial and real references regarding the beginnings World War II, and the Nazi take over, still shocks me and reminds me how lucky I truly am.

A film loved and passed on through many generations, I am sure this 1965 film will still be adored in another 50 years time! And I hope I will still be around to celebrate it.

If you haven't watched it yet, that what are you waiting for?!
