Graduate Tip 1: Avoid Adding Availability!!

I have started the job search, though not properly until August time when I have finished my Masters. Although, what I have noticed both with summer jobs and applying for more permanent roles, like I have recently, that I have made a simple mistake that has often made me not get through to interviews.

The mistake...

On my cover letter I wrote my availability - when I could start from, which often wasn't straight away, but a few months or so away.

This is not good because, often they want people ASAP, which obviously in my current situation I can't because of my Masters.

However, if I don't put it down, then I am more likely to get to an interview, which would mean I could make a face to face impression on them, and if they really like me, may consider waiting for me, or find a job I could do when I am able to start working.

So keep that in mind.
