Gran Canaria Here We Come!!

In less than two days time I will be enjoying the sun, sea, pool and sand with my boyfriend.

I am really looking forward to relaxing, swimming, and exploring. Plus reading fictional books - thankfully not academic articles/books which I have been clogging my brain up with for Uni. One of the books includes Khalid Housseini's 'And the Mountains Echoed', his previous works are amazing reads, and I definitely recommend them, and look forward to reading his third novel while chilling in the sun, safely (sun cream/sun glasses/hat) getting a good dose of vitamin D.

We are going to the area Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria, which slightly confuses me as obviously that is the name of the island on the other side of the Atlantic, but it is an area visited by people I know, who say it is a great holiday destination. Plus, I did not realise how far down the Canary Islands were - I stupidly thought they were by the side of Portugal/Spain, when they are in fact by the side of Africa. Just shows that my Geography skills and knowledge are seriously slacking and need some improvement.

To save money we are staying in a self-catered apartment, but this means that for meals (particularly tea) will mean we get the chance to explore and try different foods and restaurants, unlike all-inclusive or half board which are more restrictive as it makes you feel that you should make the most of your money and just eat in the resort; although this is great if you truly want to relax and do nothing, or if you have kids for example, like my last, and only previous plane holiday to Tenerife back in 2000.

A lot has changed since then in regards to airports thanks to technology and terrorism, so I am slightly nervous, expecially as some may know, I get rather anxious about situations that are unknown or that have many chances of going wrong/forgetting stuff/being late/not knowing what to do etc.

One of the perks of going on holiday is that it is a great excuse to buy new clothes; I am bought some lovely tops, dresses, bikinis and shoes - I shall upload some pictures when I return to show you some of my favourite items.

This holiday will be the first time that my boyfriend and I have been abroad together, so it will so lovely and romantic, and we will create some great memories to share forever.

Expect a couple of blog posts about the various things I got up to on my travels, and feel free to comment about your favourite holidays, or couple holidays, or visits to Gran Canaria.
