Pixels Film Review!!

A film with an awesome concept!

Based on Patrick Jean's short film, Pixels is film about how the classic arcade games sent in a capsule into space to teach alien lifeforms about our world in 1982, takes a nasty turn when the aliens misconstrude the friendly message as a threat. So in a game-like style, the aliens bring the arcade characters to life to destroy Earth in a battle that only skilled arcade game enthusiasts like Adam Sandler's Sam Brenner and his team can conquer.

I love this concept of making some of our favourite classic arcade games coming to life, then adding the spin that they are made to destroy us. An innovative idea, so high five to the person that thought of it.

It was refreshing to see Sandler in a fairly normal comedic role that was not too silly or over the top. The humour in the film is pretty good, such as Josh Gad - an actor I think we will be seeing more and more of, and also the two-and-fro between Sandler's character and his love interest played by Michelle Monaghan.

Her role as a hot divorcee mother, yet also a Leuitenant Colonal, shows a good mix of a tradional voyeuristic woman, with a more modern ass-kicking side. However, the portrayal of Lady Lisa, played by Ashley Benson (of Pretty Little Liars - a show I love and highly recommend), disaappoints me - even though the whole point of her is to be the object of Josh Gad's character's affection, they could have at least give her a speaking role or featured her a little bit more - her character was more backward and traditional, with her not speaking, and just being there to look at and kiss Josh Gad at a moments call.

It wasn't amazing, but it is definitely worth a watch, and I don't quite understand why it has been panned so badly. Perfect for an easy-watching Saturday night.

Let me know what you think of the film!
